Highlight of the Summer in Virginia
Saturday was my Grandson Leo's first birthday and it was such a lot of fun with so many "little ones" in attendance as well. The day started early for me with my phone's alarm going off at 7:00 a.m. so that I could make it into town to help my son Tim get things set up at Kalorama Park in DC. The weather of course was somewhat questionable all week long and I passed through a couple sprinkles as I drove into town to meet my son at his apartment.
We pretty much crammed my Jeep full with all sorts of things including a big bundle of balloons and we picked up a couple platters of bagels just down the street from the park. Since the party was outside at the park, we were lucky that one of Kathryn's aunts brought along one of those four post, fold out tents to put over the two tables of food and drinks -- luckier too that we only had a couple sprinkles during the party but, not enough to dampen the fun or cancel the party.
As someone else commented, "Never seen so many little ones in one place" -- looked like a busy day care center (but with all the balloons and extra play things). There was an inflatable plastic pool with two hundred colored plastic balls -- I somehow got the job of inflating the pool with my lungs (the pump I had brought didn't have a long enough nozzle to fit into the valves). Since this old man did so well with the pool, I also was called on to inflate a plastic fire truck for Leo -- which he quickly crawled into and took a girlfriend for a spin.
It was really a great turnout and all the little ones were pretty worn out I think from the two hours of partying (so was this old man). I know Leo was fast asleep when we arrived at his apartment afterwards to offload all the leftovers (I'm still working on a container or Starbux coffee and a jug of "Simply Orange" juice). A nap was well earned by mom and dad too. Thumbs up for a great party and a day too remember.
