Trout For Dinner

First, I just added some pictures taken today to go in yesterday's post (didn't take the camera yesterday for fear it would exacerbate the problems with it).  I also just finished chopping some pecans and sprinkling them on top of a really nice brown trout that I caught in the section I had fished yesterday in Coller State Wildlife Park.

Rio Grande River - east of CR 17
I started the day by heading east on Hwy 160 to find CR 19 and its limited access to the Rio Grande River -- only 1/4 mile on the north side and nothing along the south side (private property -- the banks were pretty steep anyway on that side).  I pulled in and parked immediately after crosing the bridge over the river and trundled down to the boat takeout point with my little rod in hand -- lure ready for casting.  After dozens and dozens of casts with not a single strike, I walked about the quarter mile east to find no openings in the bushes and thickets before hitting the private property signs.  So, I went back and tried some more but, had nothing again.
Bridge at CR 17 - Public Access

Without getting a single strike, I decided to take the rural road running parallel to the river back to Hwy 149 and the bridge there (the start of the "Gold Medal" section of the Rio Grande River).  I stopped only briefly and didn't bother taking the fishing rod as the river had split going under the bridge and the brush was thick on the nearside of the river bank.  Decided that I should head back to the spot where I had caught that Rainbow Trout yesterday, get some pictures and hope to catch something that I could keep.

When I checked the fishing forecast earlier in the morning, it indicated that noon and the hour after should be good fishing and the hour around sunset as well -- crossed my fingers as I pulled into the familiar spot and took off one of my long-sleeved shirts again since it already felt warm.  As I walked back upstream to the familiar spot with the opening to the boulders and the tree on the bank (see pictures now posted with previous blog), I couldn't resist stopping at some of the openings along the way -- ones I had tried with that yellow rooster-tail the previous day and got nothing.

Beautiful Brown Trout
One of them had similar boulders but, they were downstream from where I cast and that is where this nice Brown Trout took the lure -- just short of the boulders.  What a nice fish and luckily I had remembered to bring my stringer to keep him alive while I fished more here and back at the spot that yielded the Rainbow Trout.  Didn't catch anything else or get any strikes at the spot of yesterday's catch so, decided to head back to the RV and show Tiger what we were going to have for dinner.
