Crested Butte, Colorado is a beautiful little mountain town and a beautiful site to have a wedding -- which my niece and her partner selected for their special event. The precise location for the ceremony was the Gunsight Pass bridge just a few miles from the town. The festivities started (for some of us) Friday evening at the museum in town where family members gathered to dine and have a few drinks together and enjoy a wonderful slide show presentation of the couples growing up years and some of their recent times together over the past half dozen years.
First time I have been in a museum since I retired and quit working in the exhibit field -- way more fun that evening than any other events I have experienced in the museum business. Too bad me and my daughter weren't in close walking distance to the RV so that we could have stayed longer to enjoy the festive gathering (and more of those yummy deserts).
The next day, Laura and I headed up in the afternoon to Crested Butte from the RV park just outside the town of Gunnison. We caught one of the wedding shuttle buses with most of the Burches to Gunsight Pass bridge and arrived at the awesome site on the Slate river. Mary Beth's mom and dad were decked out western style as requested by the bride. The ceremony was as beautiful as the surroundings and the joy of the occasion became the dominant feeling among all the family and friends gathered there -- the songs and merriment brought warmth and love to the valley (and an occasional biker or stray dog too). Soon after the songs and beautiful words were spoken by friends, the couple exchanged their vows and began their walk up the nearby hillside and together for the rest of their lives.
