Day Three at The Goldcoaster
Not much to really mention today since I postponed the exploratory trip to Key Largo -- largely due to the pressing need to add some window stops/security devices for the larger sliding glass windows in the RV. I also was reminded of this when getting up this morning, my normally pestering cat Tiger did not provide his usual alley-cat meows or come beckoning me to get to the galley and get him some canned/moist food for him to scarf down (before Molly had a chance to touch the dish). He didn't even emerge until after I put down food and I didn't see or hear him at all -- began to worry that he might have somehow slipped out of the confines of the RV. My immediate thoughts went to the sliding screens on the windows and that he might have found some way to slide one open enough to slip out to freedom and into the loving arms of one of the stray cats that has been frequenting our RV since we arrived.
Therefore, my first priority this morning was to find Tiger and then get to Home Depot and find something to keep the sliding screens in a closed position to prevent either of my cats escaping to freedom -- or into an encounter with the pack of dogs I heard is running about the place. There was the 2:18 am wakeup this morning to dogs barking all over the place and the sound of roosters cock-a-doodle dooing (maybe their mating calls to each other). So, Tiger did finally emerge after Molly got first shot at the food dish and he seemed to be out-of-sorts or not quite himself. I began to think too that he might just have resolved in his mind that he is not going to be getting out of this RV anytime soon and is now depressed about that.
I did find some sliding window locks at Home Depot and had to modify them slightly by cutting one leg down with a hacksaw -- during which time, the neighbor Ruth from just around the corner stopped by to ask what I was up to and she immediately spotted a huge pile of dog crap halfway between my Jeep and the door to the RV. Perhaps during the night, the pack of dogs or one of the largest came fearfully close to where Tiger was sleeping on the sofa and that put a big scare into him -- he is still mostly black though (not scared white like a ghost).
Well, after getting two sets of locks on each window (one for the screen to keep the cats in and one on the window to keep burglars out), I thought I might look toward going down to Key Largo but, the winds started whipping up and the weather radar map showed a long line of storms coming off the Gulf and heading across the tip of Florida -- right towards us. Althought I had my Jimmy Buffet shirt on, I decided I had better wait until tomorrow when the storms clear -- too bad because the link I received this morning from a fellow fisherman at Flagler Beach (now in Texas) showed that the fishing would have been very good this afternoon from 2:31 to 4:31. Next best day is now supposed to be Saturday morning from 4:29 to 6:29 am and again in the afternoon from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
The same site only shows some slightly good fishing for tomorrow (3:21 to 5:21 pm) and that new rod and reel is just sitting there across the room begging for use and I cut more bait from the latest two blues while getting them ready to cook this afternoon -- any guesses or wagers about what I may do tomorrow afternoon?? Besides, I still have 4 more blues in the freezer even if I don't catch a thing -- and there's always Friday and Saturday and ...
