Raised as a good Catholic, we always had fish on Fridays but, these twins don't have any idea of what that means or why -- some younger folks than us Baby Boomers probably have no clue either. Anyway, I did go fishing on this Friday (day before Cinco de Mayo) and first went to that seemingly "Perfect Fishing Spot" I found just up the road -- only it didn't produce a single hit or strike after a good half hour or more of trying. Not even a fingerling size Brown Trout like the one yesterday in the same spot so, I began to doubt this spot and looked back upstream to see if anything looked promising in short walking distance -- the bank looked pretty steep too for the first quarter mile but, in the distance there seemed to be a large boulder near the second group of pines which might be worth investigating.

Big Boulder with reddish patch |
As I turdged in that direction, I probed a couple small openings and gave one or two a try but, the footing was touchy and when I got to river's edge, there was little room to make any casts -- nothing productive. I did finally get to that second grouping of pines and barely found a safe way down through the bushes and trees but, again very little room to cast so, I climbed onto this big boulder with a reddish patch on top and made a few feeble casts (impeded still by the bushes and trees to either side). However, after a few casts to the back of the nearest submerged boulders without a strike, I guided the lure between the two farthest submerged boulders and drew it near to the huge boulder I stood on and let it sink a couple times right below me and to the left where another boulder jutted from the bank. Voila! Another nice Brown Trout came out fighting and the twins and I had another trout dinner. Fish On Fridays.

Fish On Fridays |
This time I wrapped this beauty in foil, after seasoning it, sprinkling it with some bread crumbs and adding some pats of margarine to each side -- then, I cooked it on the grill rather than using the convection oven. It tasted twice as good as the one last night.
After getting the fish back to the RV and getting it iced down, I headed up Wolf Creek Pass (Route 160) to check out the accesses to the South Fork of the Rio Grande River. I passed the campground where I had stayed last July (Riverbend Resorts) and it looked empty and then passed the next RV campground (Happy Valley) which was still closed until May 24h as I looked for a way to get to the stream for some more fishing. Finally found a small road going over the stream and parked at the edge of the stream in a small lot by the bridge which looked like easy access. Turned out to be a bit of a workout climbing up, down and along the stream and tried about 1/3 of a mile on both sides of the stream with no strikes anywhere along the way -- I did get lots of cans and bottles while I hiked both sides of the stream (still amazes me how the assholes of the world just trash every piece of paradise I have seen on this trip).

South Fork of Rio Grande |
I did get some nice pictures at various points along the stream and it certainly looks like it should produce some nice fish -- with no weird restrictions on Rainbow Trout and others. Oh well, back to the RV and get the grill fired up and have a few beers -- beautiful day up here in the mountains.
